Website Privacy Policy

Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System (SVMHS) is committed to protecting the privacy of each user of its web site and has created this policy in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy. Because your privacy is so important to us, SVMHS abides by the following principles:

Your Personal Information

SVMHS recognizes your right to confidentiality and is committed to protecting your privacy, including the non-identifying information shared in order to become a registered user of the interactive areas of the site.

We understand that health information can be of an especially sensitive nature and that you may have concerns about sharing medical information. Therefore, SVMHS does not collect personally identifiable information about its users except when such individuals specifically provide such information on a voluntary basis, for example: a user's expected delivery date as part of the Pregnancy eNewsletter registration. A user's access to and use of the SVMHS site constitutes information voluntarily given by the user.

SVMHS will never willfully sell, trade, rent, disclose or make available personally identifiable information about users to any third party without the user's prior consent, except when we believe in good faith that the law requires it or to protect the rights or property of SVMHS.

It is our policy to respect and protect the privacy of your personal information. Our site contains forms for different uses that ask for contact information (for example: job applications; class registration, donations, eCard applications and newsletter registration). The user's contact information is used to contact the user when necessary. We also gather traffic patterns and site usage information to help us develop the design and layout of the site and to personalize your experience. Your IP address is used to gather broad demographic information. Large population demographics are compiled using this data but no individual information is ever disseminated.

Like most websites, the SVMHS web site uses pieces of information called "cookies" to keep track of which areas of our site are visited and whether you are a repeat visitor to the SVMHS site. A cookie is a text file that is sent to your hard drive where your browser files are kept. They do not come onto a user's system nor do they pose a threat to a user's files. This enables us to relate your use of the site with other specific information that you have voluntarily provided. It is important to understand, though, that the cookies themselves do not actually contain any personal information. We use cookies to deliver content specific to your interests and to save your password so you don't have to re-enter it each time you visit our site. Users should be aware that SVMHS cannot control the use of cookies by third parties hosting data for the SVMHS site.

If you would like to know more about cookies we encourage you to read the US Government Information Bulletin (I-034) regarding cookie technology. To read the bulletin, click:

For these reasons, we strongly encourage you to talk with your children about being cautious when it comes to sharing personal information online and require that you accompany your children below 18 years of age when they visit our web site.
